19 Aug News | Dr Mehreen Faruqi introduces reform of abortion law in NSW parliament
The Abortion Law Reform (Miscellaneous Acts Amendment) Bill 2016 has been introduced in the Upper House of NSW parliament by Dr Mehreen Faruqi. This is the first abortion law reform bill in NSW history. It comes 116 years after abortion was listed as a crime under the law of the then colony of NSW. The bill aims to remove abortion from the Crimes Act 1900, to bring NSW law into line with modern medical practice, modern expectations of reproductive healthcare and modern views of the rights of patients to make their own health care choices.
