Marc Torka


Dr Marc Torka is Postdoctoral Fellow at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) and the Institute for Social Research at Frankfurt University (IfS). He received his PhD from Bielefeld University with a publication on the projectification of modern science, which was awarded the Ulrich Teichler Prize by the German Society for Higher Education Research. His research areas include institutional transformations of science and the professions, its impact on professional socialization, professional work, professional organizations and science policy. He has published on the commodification of science and the emergence of entrepreneurial scientists, the changing governance of science and the work of expert panels, the importance of project funding and its consequences for project teams and the worldwide restructuring of graduate training. In his current project, funded by the German Research Foundation, he analyses the impacts and limitations that the emergence of new forms of doctoral supervision could have for academic socialization.
