Hai Hong Nguyen completed his PhD with a thesis focusing on the political dynamics of grassroots democracy in Vietnam. He has teaching experience in political science and international relations both in Vietnam and at the University of Queensland for the School of Political Science and International Studies. Hai has been a regular contributor to academic literature in Vietnam and international online forums, and has also translated a large volume of academic texts.
Hai’s first book drawing on his doctoral thesis, published by Palgrave Macmillan, is Political Dynamics of Grassroots Democracy in Vietnam. Hai holds a bachelor in translation/interpretation at Hanoi Foreign Languages University, and a bachelor in jurisprudence (honours), in Vietnam. He graduated from a Masters in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (with distinction) in Sweden in 2005, and was conferred a Doctor of Philosophy in March 2015 at the University of Queensland. Dr Nguyen’s research interests are in the field of democratic theory, participatory local democracy, governance and civil society.
