Jian Xu has a PhD in Media and Communications from the University of New South Wales. He is a 2015 Endeavour Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the China Research Centre at the University of Technology, Sydney. He is a visiting scholar in the Annenberg School for Communication & the Centre for the Study of Contemporary China, the University of Pennsylvania. Jian researches Chinese media and communication with a particular focus on the sociology and politics of new media. His research areas include China’s Internet activism, Internet governance, media events, social media and micro-philanthropy. He is the author of Media Events in Web 2.0 China: Interventions of Online Activism (Sussex Academic Press, 2016).
